Before discussing about Taiwan, we need to first understand our diplomatic relations, and yet, we will soon realize that there isn’t any reason for us to give up our football development at all. There are many of us probably don’t know something about our diplomatic country- Burkina Faso, it is a new African football power continent in West Africa. In fact, Burkina Faso won the 2nd place at “Africa Cup of Nations” only to Nigeria in 2013.
In the other hand Taiwan never have any break through on football developments; we’ve always been struggling at the end of the ranking list (176). However, in comparison on the financial aspects of these two countries, according to International Monetary Fund-World Economic Outlook Database, April 2016, Burkina Faso GDP per capita PPP was 1,500 dollars up down. Meanwhile, Taiwan is 40,000 dollars; it is 26 times more than Burkina Faso. Then I cant’ stop wonder, Taiwanese government clearly never list football as one of the political program and has Being marginalizes on the government budget plan. In 2009 Taiwanese government planned out 785k USD for the football development until now has increased to 1,832k USD, and yet, it is still a drop in the bucket if we compare to our neighbour countries such as Japan, Korea and China.
Lets take a look at Japan first. In 1993 japan founded their first professional football league called “J League”. Since then, until now J League has become the most successful football league in Asia. In addition, we are all well aware the rapid growth of football development in china nowadays, it has been the hit new almost everyday. Football for Xi Jingping is not simply just sport, is more of a way to show Chinas’ sporting on a truly global platform, while also creating a relatively fresh industry to tap into China's consumer culture.
So the question is how can we match the vision Xi sees that we don’t? No doubt that footballing is the most globalize sport in the world. Taiwan also have many south american and african state friends, well then imagine, if our footballing meets the international standard, how many international business opportunity will it contributes to both Taiwanese macro and micro economy? The prerequisite is that we need a team, which is up to par or well qualified to play with foreign teams. From what I have seen so far on the football market, I strongly believe that football is the only sport that can drive Taiwan to blend with the glob. Government should engage football more intensively and list it into one of the primary future orientation.
